The present membership is composed of a diverse group of
men from all walks of life who reside in Maplewood and
surrounding communities. They are drawn together by the
mutual interests of good fellowship and the pleasure of
singing good music.
The Club was founded in 1946 as an Auxiliary of Post
No.80 of the American Legion. Through dedication and hard
work, the Club soon gained its independence as a private
men's glee club. Along our route to recognition, the
Township of Maplewood adopted our cause, and in 1964, the
Maplewood Community Recreation Service became our sponsor.
In 1968, The Maplewood Recreation Department took over as
our official sponsor. We are most appreciative of their
constant support, including their provision of a weekly
rehearsal facility.

EXTRA CONCERTS
For 65 years, the
Maplewood Glee Club has been known to the public primarily
as an organization dedicated to music through its
semi-annual concerts as well as its scholarship program.
Many talented young artists have been acknowledged through
our scholarship competition and encouraged in continuing
their music studies.
However, there is another facet to the Maplewood Glee Club
and its civic activities of which we are equally proud. This
is our Extra Concert Program. The Maplewood Glee Club has
performed for organizations such as nursing homes,
hospitals, and rehabilitation centers. The excitement and
success of this program has been such that it has been
difficult to decide who have enjoyed themselves more at
these performances – the audience or the glee club.
For more information about the availability of the Maplewood
Glee Club for an Extra Concert appearance, please contact
James Byrne, our Extra Concert Program Chairman, at (908)
276-7372.
