Sean Hack, a 17 year
old senior at Columbia high school has been playing
the trumpet for eight years. For seven of them he
has been a student of Chris Jaudes.
While at Columbia he has
been a member of the jazz band, the wind ensemble
and the marching band, as well as the Excelsior
Singers.
Sean has also played with
the New Jersey Youth Symphony for five years where
he has had the opportunity to play first trumpet on
pieces as diverse as Gershwin’s An American in
Paris, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and
Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. For five summers he has
also played with the Gramercy Brass Orchestra’s
summer brass camp.
Sean has participated
in summer trumpet workshops at Oberlin Conservatory
and the Eastman School of Music and has taken master
classes with Roy Poper, Allen Vizzutti, James
Thompson and Douglas Prosser.

He frequently performs as a
soloist at St. Joseph's Church in Maplewood on major
holidays.
Sean has also performed with
the Freelance Ensemble Artists of New Jersey
Sean also enjoys
giving trumpet lessons and enjoyed his AP course in
Music Theory.
He is now working on music
composition in an independent study. Sean intends to
major in trumpet performance and minor in
composition in college.

Chatham High School senior
Sean Switzer studied voice privately for six years
with the late Dr. Paul Gallagher and recently with
Kenneth Bryson.
A versatile vocalist, Sean is equally at ease
with Classical, Broadway, Multicultural, Jazz, and
Popular music genres.
A veteran member of the
24-voice CHS Select Choir, Sean has performed
as a choral singer and featured soloist in
significant venues such as NJPAC, Lincoln Center and
Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, in addition to
adjudicated opportunities throughout the Northeast.
Sean earned honors status as a member of CHS
Select Choir for his junior and senior
years, and enjoys membership in two student-run
choral organizations at CHS; SNAPS, the
mixed a cappella choir and Varsity Vocals,
the male a cappella vocal group of which he is
the 2011-2012 Director.
With a passion for combining
his interests in classical vocal performance with
theater, Sean has been cast in many musical
productions. In addition to his introduction to
musical theater as a children’s chorus member of CHS
productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat and The Music Man, favorite
roles at CHS include Mr. Twimble in How to
Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Danny
Zuko in Grease, Sky Masterson in Guys and
Dolls, Apollo in Metamorphoses, and most
recently as Robert Martin in The Drowsy Chaperone.
Sean has also been cast in local summer
theater productions of Rent (Mark Cohen) and
Godspell (Judas).
Sean
has enjoyed membership in the New Jersey Region I
Mixed Chorus, NJ All-State Mixed Chorus and the 2012
All-Eastern Honors Chorus.
In his sophomore year, Sean was the recipient
of the 2010 New Jersey Governor’s Award for
excellence in Vocal Music.
As a member of the 2011 NJ All-State Chorus,
Sean was selected from among the 350 singers as the
recipient of the All-State pin, traditionally
presented at each concert to one outstanding member
in recognition of their service, leadership,
achievement, and contributions to the New Jersey
All-State organization. Outside of CHS choral
activities, Sean is a member of Extreme Faith,
a Christian rock group at Corpus Christi Church, and
is a founding member and lead vocalist of the
popular local rock band, Castle Park. This
fall, Sean plans to attend college to study Vocal
Performance and Liberal Arts.

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The Music
Scholarship Award was initiated in 1971 by John Plumer
during his year as President. In his honor the Maplewood
Glee Club established the John A. Plumer Memorial
Scholarship Fund as a not-for-profit organization supporting
young music students. A scholarship is awarded each year to
a graduating senior high school student planning to pursue a
career in music. Selection of the recipient is administered
by our Scholarship Committee. Candidates are drawn from the
towns where members of the glee club reside. Relatives of
glee club members are ineligible.
Continuance of the award has been made possible by the
support of the Glee Club’s members and friends. Tax
deductible donations to the John A Plumer Memorial
Scholarship Fund may be sent to:
